When you think of summer fun, ideas like firing up the grill and relaxing poolside in the backyard probably come to mind. What many people forget about is all of the enjoyable activities that include fitness. The best time to get out and enjoy the great outdoors is during the warmer months. The options to get fit outside are limitless, but here are a few ideas:

Every town in the U.S. has recreational leagues in just about every sport imaginable, from kickball and dodgeball, to softball and swimming. Recreational leagues can be very fun and exciting, and are a great way to meet new people and be held accountable. Don’t be intimidated by activities you are unfamiliar with; most leagues have divisions that cater to all levels whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced participant.

For those looking to enjoy the outdoors and burn a few calories, cycling is the perfect option. One of the great things about cycling nowadays is the vast changes in technology. There are bikes available in any style, manufactured for various terrains, and multiple seating positions for spine alignment and comfort. There are also several options for children. If you decide to go on a ride alone or with a little one, there are carriages available that allow you to attack the road as a family.

One of the most refreshing things to do in the middle of a hot summer day is to take a dip in the local swimming pool. At most swimming facilities, there are areas designated for lap swim and recreation. If you are looking to do something fun and cost-effective, swimming is a wonderful option. So, throw on your suit, grab the family and get ready for a day that everyone will enjoy.
